The Milwaukee Brewers Select Garrett Mitchell 20th Overall

As we are in desperate need for sports in our veins, the 2020 MLB Draft has arrived. The Milwaukee Brewers had the 20thselection in this year’s draft, and they selected Garrett Mitchell, outfielder, out of UCLA.

Mitchell, 21, is a true speed demon, and a great pick at 20 as MLB Pipeline had Mitchell as the number 6 overall prospect going into the draft. This is actually the second time being drafted for Mitchell, as he was selected in the 14thround by Oakland in 2017. Instead, he decided to go to UCLA, in his 3 year career there, Garrett batted .327/.393/.871 and really proved to be an all around great player.

In his 2019 season with the Bruins, he played 62 games, with 14 doubles, 12 triples, 6 homers, and 41 RBIs. His ability to utilize his speed got him 18 stolen bases in that season, while being buttery with his glove in the field.

The 6 foot 3 inch outfielder has a big frame, with the wheels to go along with it, however he has yet to figure out the power aspect of his size. The hope is, that will come along soon, and he can make some noise with is big bat.

Mitchell turns 22 in September, so is somewhat of an older prospect, I would hope to see him tap Triple A/ Major leagues in the next 3 years or so.

It’s not much, but the 2020 Brewers Season has somewhat begun!
