Aaron Gordon

Height: 6’9”

Vertical: 39” Taken in 2014

Slam Dunk Contests: 2016, 2017

Highest Finish: 2nd (2016)

Aaron Gordon vs Zach LaVine. When NBA fans hear this, they should immediately think of the greatest slam dunk contest of all-time. In 2016, these two put on a show that may never be matched with one incredible dunk after another. Aaron Gordon ended up on the losing side of this matchup but that wasn’t for a lack of creativity and skill. NBA fans have seen him do it before and should be prepared to see him do it again. Aaron Gordon should be everybody’s favorite to win the 2020 Slam Dunk Contest considering out of all the contestants, he has put on the best performance and this year, he is coming for the trophy.

Derrick Jones Jr.

Height: 6’6”

Vertical: 48” (Unofficial)

Slam Dunk Contests: 2017

Highest Finish: 2nd (2017)

Derrick Jones Jr. is the best in game dunker out of everybody on this list. A few times every season since he has been in the league, one of his highlights takes the NBA world by storm. His style of play is perfect for a competition like this. Out of all the contestants, Jones Jr. has the greatest chance of absolutely stealing the show with a dunk nobody has ever seen before. With his leaping ability, any dunk is possible, it’s just a matter of creativity when it comes to Jones Jr.

Dwight Howard

Height: 6’11”

Vertical: 39.5” Taken in 2011

Slam Dunk Contests: 2008,

Highest Finish: 1st (2008)

Dwight Howard is currently reinventing himself in Los Angeles. After it seemed like he was going to be out of the league, the Lakers took a chance on the big man which is paying off immensely. The last time Dwight Howard was in a Slam Dunk Contest was in 2008 when he beat the likes of Jamario Moon, Rudy Gay, and Gerald Green. In my opinion, big men are usually the most uninteresting group of players year after year to compete in the Dunk Contest. I don’t think this year will be any different. For Dwight Howard to win, he’s going to have to pull out all the stops and do something greater than the “Superman Dunk” to beat this field.

Pat Connaughton

Height: 6’5”

Vertical: 44” Taken in 2015

Slam Dunk Contests: None

Highest Finish: N/A

The last entry, on February 3rd, it was announced that Pat Connaughton and his 44” vertical would take the last spot in the 2020 Slam Dunk Contest. He is by far the underdog and a long shot to win this year. However, if Connaughton utilizes his full vertical potential while being as creative as possible, there’s no reason he couldn’t win the trophy.

Projected Finish:

Champion: Aaron Gordon

Runner-Up: Derrick Jones Jr.

3rd Place: Pat Connaughton

4th Place: Dwight Howard
