Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton’s trophy rooms got a little bigger last night. The 7th annual Wisconsin Sports Awards took place Wednesday night and was broadcasted across the country on ESPN3. According to the award show website the “Wisconsin Sports Awards is an invitation-only event of 600 attendees that celebrates excellence in Wisconsin high school, collegiate and professional sports.”
Khris Middleton has always been a very active player in the Milwaukee community. Whether it is holding his own youth basketball camp where the profits go to local non-profit organizations or providing one million dollars per year to support scholarships for minority students, Middleton has continually been a positive influence to represent the Milwaukee Bucks. To honor all of his hard work off the court, Khris was awarded the Wisconsin Sports “Inspirational Athlete Of The Year.” A nice honor for a player who goes above and beyond to be an upstanding leader in the Milwaukee area.
It is impossible to have a Wisconsin sports awards show without superstar, Giannis Antetokounmpo. The first award the Bucks’ forward took home was “Professional Athlete Of The Year.” He beat out other Wisconsin greats like Davante Adams, David Bakhtiari, Travis Shaw, and his own teammate Khris Middleton. In the 2017-18 season, Giannis finished 6th in MVP voting ahead of players like Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, and Demar DeRozan. He was 5th in the NBA in scoring and top 30 in assists, rebounds, steals, blocks, and minutes. Since the Wisconsin Sports Awards covers all high school, collegiate and professional sports, there was also an “Athlete Of The Year Award” and you guessed it, Antetokounmpo won that too. He beat out Green Bay Packers’ receiver, Davante Adams, and Wisconsin Badgers’ running back, Jonathan Taylor. Giannis had an unforgettable season and these two awards further cemented his legacy as a Wisconsin legend.
