What are his strengths?
Kamara can do a lot of things that translate well to being a productive NFL player. He measures in at 5’10, 215 pounds, a great size for an NFL running back. A bigger body to handle the beating required to play running back at the professional level. His forty time at the combine was 4.56. That size combined with 4.5 speed makes him a very appealing prospect. Has good pass catching ability, which is almost required for the modern day NFL running back. At Tennessee he lined up as a slot receiver from time to time. Has the ability to pick up the blitz, which means he can be on the field for all three downs.
What are his weaknesses?
His strengths out number his weaknesses, but there are some weaknesses that are going to cause him to fall down some teams draft boards. Scouts have some serious questions about his vision. Vision is so important to a running back. Inability to see blockers and holes develop downfield will lead to a lot of short gains instead of first downs. He also has a history of knee injuries. A preseason knee injury his freshman year at Alabama caused him to redshirt and ultimately led to his leaving and ending up at Tennessee. During his last season at Tennessee he missed some games with a sprained knee. His history of knee injures is going to shy some teams away from him.
When will he be drafted?
The consensus seems to be that there will most likely be three running backs drafted in the first round (Fournette, McCaffrey, and Cook). In all likelihood, Kamara will be a second round pick. There is a good chance he will be the third running back to come off of the board.
Where does he fit the Packers?
Kamara is a terrific fit for the Packers. A fast, big-bodied running back is what they need to pair with Ty Montgomery. Kamara is a good pass catcher, and when you run a pass first offense, you desperately need a back that can catch. Now I don’t want the Packers to take him at 29, this could be a similar situation to Eddie Lacy. If the Packers can scoop him up in the second round, that would be a huge win and a great pick.
