The Packers had to place guard Lane Taylor on IR with a biceps injury that will require surgery. This injury will obviously hurt the overall depth of the Packers offensive line, but the starting until actually get better. Rookie guard Elgton Jenkins is a better player, and the Packers line will not skip a beat with him starting.
As of Wednesday, two Packers are officially listed as out. Defensive lineman Montravius Adams will miss his second straight game with a shoulder injury. Second year linebacker Oren Burks has not played a snap yet this year, but look for him to start practicing more following the Packers upcoming “mini bye.” His chest injury was not as significant as originally thought.
The biggest surprise on the injury report was linebacker Za’Darius Smith. He was not listed at all on Monday, and now on Wednesday he is listed as questionable for Thursday’s game. He is dealing with a knee injury that has caused to be limited in practice on both Tuesday and Wednesday. I expect him to be out there on Thursday, but if he cannot go, look for rookie Rashan Gary to get a lot of meaningful action.
The third and final linebacker listed is Kyler Fackrell. He’s been limited all week with a shoulder injury. His role on the defense has decreased due to Rashan Gary, but with Za’Darius Smith status also iffy, it would really hurt the Packers to be missing two of their top four edge rushers.
Wide receiver Jake Kumerow missed last week’s game with a shoulder injury. It has also made him a limited participant in practice all week. He is questionable for Thursday. The Eagles will most likely come into this game with only three corner backers on their roster with NFL experience. Their top CB Ronald Darby will not play. This is a game where the Packers could look to spread the Eagles out and make them cover five guys. This could be a potential game to get Jake involved a little more, but he is going to have to be on the field to do so.
Assuming Za’Darius Smith plays, the Packers will be in pretty good shape health wise. This Eagles offense will definitely be the best one the Packers have faced to this point. They will not have DeSean Jackson and who knows how healthy Alshon Jeffery will be. The Packers have a big road game in Dallas next Sunday, and it would be nice to get there at 4-0.
