Sterling Brown: A certified MF’er

Sterling Brown, the 46th pick out of SMU, has been making headways recently because of his play and bad-ass demeanor.

The rookie certainly doesn’t play like one, and he isn’t afraid of anyone that steps on the court. At 6’6″ with a wingspan near-6’10”, Sterling Brown has used his wide frame to bully opponents on both sides of the ball. He’s adopted the label recently as an enforcer, and we’ve already seen him get under the skin of a few notable NBA players like Kristaps Porzingis, Draymond Green and veteran swingman Arron Afflalo.

His playing time is way up recently, and he’s sitting at 14.2 minutes per game after rarely seeing the floor at the beginning of the season. He’s such a valuable weapon coming off the bench, and he isn’t afraid to fire away. Sterling Brown is currently shooting a stellar 40.9% from three so far and has a solid effective field goal percentage of 54.5%. He’s also shooting a reliable 85.7% from the line. Although his stat line of 4.4 points 2.6 rebounds per night won’t jump off the screen, his impact is undeniable. With starting shooting guard Malcolm Brogdon out for an extended period of time, Brown has been the first man off the bench since Brogdon went down. He’s answered the call and has delivered on both sides of the ball.

Sterling Brown is not afraid to get physical, and he really digs in on the defensive end. He’s by far been one of Milwaukee’s best defenders recently, and he has a terrific DefRtg of 99.2 compared to Milwaukee’s current team DefRtg of 106.5. The impact of 7.3 is second in the NBA, only behind Grizzlies’ Brandan Wright. Brown makes life a living hell on defense, and he gets after his opponent from the minute he checks in. His on-ball defense is elite. The Bucks desperately needed a spark when they looked dead in the water a few weeks ago, and Sterling Brown has certainly provided that spark.

With such a depleted bench unit, Sterling’s impact cannot be understated. He’s played exceptionally well for a rookie during Milwaukee’s current 6-1 surge. The rookie from Maywood, Illinois, is certainly someone you want on your side.
