BC Eats – The Carvery’s Corned Beef Sandwich

Over the past couple seasons, my favorite place to eat at the BC was The Carvery. I love hot, fresh-cut corned beef and that the stand is operated by Jake’s Deli, a Milwaukee staple and my second favorite place for a good corned beef sandwich (my favorite is Benji’s Deli).

Sadly, I learned as I approached the stand that Jake’s Deli is no longer operating The Carvery (located outside of section 206). Where the Jake’s sign once appeared was now just a sad, empty space. As I got in the short line, I hoped the food would taste as good as it had. I eagerly, hungrily watched the staff person construct my sandwich and then, a few minutes after I ordered, the corned beef sandwich was mine!

There is ample seating beside and across the concourse from The Carvery, however, with game time quickly approaching we headed up to our seats.

The food: Overall, the presentation looked great. The corned beef was a bit more fatty than I had hoped, but tasted pretty great. They did forget to add the sauerkraut, so I had to return to the stand to ask them to put it on. The marble rye is good, however I wish the offered the option to have the sandwich toasted. The chips were standard kettle-style, a perfect complement to the sandwich, along with a dill pickle. When Jake’s was operating The Carvery, you also got a little cup of coleslaw. Sadly, that is no longer the case.

The game: Greg Monroe had his best game as a Buck against his former team with 20 points and 13 rebounds. His former front court mate, Andre Drummond played well for Detroit, but it wasn’t enough, as the Bucks pulled away early and blew out the Pistons. Former Buck Ersan Ilyasova was mostly a non-factor, while all five Buck starters were in double figures. Final score: Bucks 109, Pistons 88.

The verdict: The food was good, but not as good as it was when it was operated by Jake’s. $14 is a bit pricey, but probably fair for a meal that is tasty and filling.
